After the birth of my first child, I was inspired to hire a doula for the birth and postpartum of my second child. I received wonderful encouragement and support from her. I really felt empowered as a woman and mother following that birth. I decided to pursue training as a postpartum doula, so I can help other women realize the strength they have within them. I realize what a major transition adding a child to your family is and how it benefits the whole family to have non-judgemental support.
My role as a postpartum doula is to help you assess what your needs will be after the birth of your child/ren. I can help with newborn care, self-care for you, light housekeeping, meal preparation, how to put friends and relatives to use, what to expect in the postpartum period and resources available in the community.
I am here to support you and your family, so that you may have this precious time of bonding with and getting to know your newborn(s). My goal is to work myself out of a job by raising your skill and confidence level during my service to you.
I am currently completing Postpartum Doula certification through DONA International. I have already received 27 hours of training in postpartum adjustment, newborn characteristics, care, feeding, and development, and the promotion of parent-infant bonding. I am also a Trained Breastfeeding Educator through the Texas Dept. of State Health Services. I have a B.S. in Child Development and Family Relationships from the University of Texas at Austin. I have over 9 years of experience working with children and families. I also teach a parenting class, for more info see my website at Family InSight.
It is an honor to be able to support you during this precious and exciting time as you add a new member(s) to your family.
I look forward to speaking with you,
Carlene Townley
